I loved this interview with a rock critic from The New Yorker Magazine who is also a new parent. She talks about wanting to find music that her new little one would enjoy with her, and how her daughter’s face would light up with pure joy at Paul McCartney’s Heart of the Country– it’s a song that contains the lyric ‘gonna get me a good night’s sleep’ which the parent longs for. She also describes bouncing with her child to Aretha Franklin’s Rock Steady. Her third suggestion is Velvet Underground and Nico’s I’ll Be Your Mirror. Some of the lyrics of that song are:
‘I’ll be your mirror
Reflect what you are, in case you don’t know
I’ll be the wind, the rain and the sunset
The light on your door to show that you’re home’
I thought this was a great resource for ideas of enjoying play with a new born- worth a listen.
